Random thoughts on a snow day
Olympic thoughts:
I did watch a fair amount of ice dancing. It was easy to get behind Virtue and Moir. First, they were classy. Their costumes were very tasteful and elegant. Second, I liked Scott's hair short. All the ice dancing men have crazy hair! They were really good at what they did and I am glad they won.
I was interested to read that Julia Mancuso made a comment in the press about how Lindsey Vonn gets all the attention. This could sound like sore loser mentality or always the bridesmaid mentality...It's true, Julia and I am glad you spoke up for yourself. Lindsey also wears too much makeup! I like Julia's little tiara.
I was not even annoyed (rare) with the ice skating commentary after Joannie's performance. (she placed third in short program)
"What a gift she gave us" was the quote I remembered. She just skated her heart out after her own heartbreak. Very commendable.
Preschool thoughts:
Sam brought home Peter Rabbit from his preschool class. Our instructions are to care for Peter and write a journal about what we did with Peter. Poor Peter...how can we write in his journal that he and Sammy watch TV and watch mommy nurse? Because that's a lot of what goes on here. Caroline came to the rescue though and built Peter a fort. Peter Rabbit journaling is a cute project, but I am feeling a little pressure to make it great, include pictures, etc. Why do we do this to ourselves? My first sentence was Sammy and Mommy taught Peter all about taking care of new babies. That sounds exciting, right? I hope Peter doesn't have a snow day tomorrow. I am ready to send him back!
Other thoughts:
Things I am enjoying: Lost, trail mix, the Happiness Project, tall slippers, slowing down.
Things I am excited about: going back to the gym, visiting with my mom and sister this week
Things I am frustrated about: costco photo center website..uugh
Cute thought:
Matthew's homework was to tell us about the best part of his 100 day celebration yesterday. So I asked him about it and he said his favorite part was that I came to his class for the party. It doesn't take much to please these little ones, does it?
Onto week 4
Thomas will be 4 weeks old tomorrow! I can hardly believe it.
Mark blessed him at Church last Sunday while his parents were here. He wore the little sweater sailor outfit that Sammy wore. It was a nice blessing. (Today is probably my last day home from Church...)
Grandma and Grandpa came to visit! Hooray! We had some help in our home! And especially during the winter vacation week! The kids loved being with them. Thanks for visiting! We loved having you!
Thomas loves his bath! What a sweet baby.
We look forward to my mom and Susie's visit on Friday. Hooray!
And many many thanks to the wonderful friends and ward members in New York who helped us so much...brought gifts, meals, took kids for playdates and outings, shoveled snow, picked up kids from school, provided moral support, let me cry on their shoulder, etc. What would we have done without you!? Thank you so much!
One week old!

Happy Birthday Matthew!
It was Matthew's 6th birthday on Friday. He wanted to bring in green cupcakes with 6 green m and m's for his class. He's dancing with his beautiful teacher, Miss Mitchell in this picture. He was very impatient for Dad to come home later in the day to open presents. His favorite gift was an oversized plastic bowling set (he's been asking about bowling for some time now--and luckily Mark and I found a set that wasn't like a toddler bowling set at Toys R Us on Monday!).
This is not by best cake effort---but he didn't care. It has a M and a 6 on it. Josh did encourage me to get balloons and decorate a bit, so we were festive. His party is at the end of month, so we have some time. It was so fun to celebrate our wonderful boy. He's so enthusiastic and smiley!
Lactation Frustration!
Nursing has always come quite easily to our babies. But little Thomas has a tongue tie, so it's been difficult for him. He's a bit jaundiced, we are a little worried about gaining weight, and it looks like he will have to get his tongue clipped (sounds awful but they assure me that it's a very quick and easy proceedure.) I will find out more on Thursday when we go to the pediatric ENT!
But after 2 separate visits with 2 different lactation consultants and 2 visits to our pediatrician, we are figuring things out. We nurse in a football hold (so I don't get sore), we pump, we supplement his nursing with bottles of breast milk so he gets more volume.
He is such a content little guy, only fusses when he gets his diaper changed, and tolerates all the loving from the brothers and sister. He is a love. I am just really tired. And I think about breast milk way too much! Which reminds me, now that he's nursed and asleep, I gotta go pump! More later!
