Waiting for them to grow into it
A quiet Sunday afternoon found us going into our attic to retrieve items that had been stored for a latter use.
Santa brought Josh a couple of playmobil sets when he was 4 and 5. He never really embraced it. I spent 2 Christmas mornings putting together a tree house and a pirate ship. A treehouse got disasembled and all the pieces were intermingled in a large tote.
But now I have a 6 and a 4 year old, a larger playspace and a week of spring break. It was a perfect time for it's reappearance. Playmobil pieces are scattered all over the playroom floor. They have made islands of pirates (using laptops) and driving a car with a GPS system, and they are having fun.
I also pulled out 2T clothes for Sam and size 4 clothes for Matthew. Oh the treasures! I was never so happy to see a size 4 yellow rain slicker in my life (perfect companion to Thomas rainboots). And the summer pajamas--sweet, well worn, washed many times from Baby Gap--little bare arms and legs exposed just enough to tickle and kiss.
We sometimes hurry up our kids--can't wait to get to the next stage. Can't wait for the baby to sit up, can't wait for the toddler to put 2 words together, can't wait for (insert other milestones)... But it is going so fast. I'd like to slow things down a bit more, put it away for a while and just wait for them to grow into it.
My feelings about projects
The last couple of weeks, I have been interested in organizing our family's history, keepsakes, etc. For instance, I have various papers and programs from recitals, graduations, etc. that I want to arrange in some kind of fashion. I am not interested in scrapbooking them, and I did come up with a system for them.
I have been working on setting up a workspace in our basement to do this. Mark commented that I often had more fun setting up for a project than actually doing the project. And he's right. I am set up now, but not actually doing anything with my workspace! (Maybe I need an office and a workspace, like Jan!)
I also had something looming over my head. Matthew's teacher sent us a poster home to decorate about the child and their family, favorites, etc. So I did that this week and that kind of consumed me. I spent about 3 hours on it, plus took it to get laminated yesterday. Why do I do this to myself???? It was fun doing it and Matthew loves it and we will get it back and keep it forever, but I couldn't get it to be this quick thing. Plus we were supposed to let them help and I did nothing to let him help!
Side note on lamination: Not that I laminate much, but when I do, I always expect that it will be a quick thing, and it never is. I spent 1/2 hour there getting it done! In the future, I will remember that laminating takes a while and to just be happy if it's quick.
So here I am posting about it when I should get myself down there and get to work. Okay, iPod in hand, I am headed down there...right now!
My new great idea
Well, as some of you know, I am a huge fan of the on-line reserve catalog of our county's library system. I love it--I put in my books, books for my kids, DVD's, and they all come to my local library and I pick them up and we enjoy our books and DVD's.
So, we got the new Deseret Book catalog and I was thumbing through it. I circled a few titles that were of interest to me. I plugged them into the library's system and of course, they are not there.
We need a netflix system for deseret book books! You suscribe, queue the books you want to read, they come in the mail to you. Fraction of the price of buying books.
If someone could please set this up, I'd appreciate it.
How to ride a bike
by Matthew
1) On the first really nice day, ask your Mom to go to the park.
2) Watch your older friend ride your bike first.
3) Get on your bike and start pedaling around the blacktop.
4) Ride your bike to pick up your big brother and sister from school the next few days.
5) Don't look back. Just go for it.
Not too much to report
Still going on last week's euphoria...
Love the new book I am reading--"The Namesake"
Love that Matthew patted Caroline on the head and told her to be a good tigerlily before her soccer game.
Love that Mark has arranged for our summer travels...many things to look forward to!
Love frequent flyer miles!
Love that Josh's team started practicing. Not sure how I feel about 3 days of baseball per week. (2 games, 1 practice).
Love Josh's new glasses
Love that I found swimming lessons for Matthew starting early May!
Love Sammy's long hair!
Love Sammy's enthusiasm for everything these days! You can just feel his excitement! Birds! Airplanes! Trampoline! Dora! Anything!
Love Caroline because she's Caroline
Love that Caroline's teacher told me that her sculpey parrot looks like a first grader really did it.
Love that Yoko gave Matthew Daichi's old Thomas rainboots and now it's easy to get him out of the house because I say you can wear your boots and he comes running!
A good week

(We were sad last night though).
The kids had an art show at their school last night. So fun to see their projects and their friends' projects.
Josh is in the circus this week at school! He performs tomorrow.
I've been diligent about going to the gym.
Everybody's been sleeping well.
I did some organizing.
It's conference this weekend.
My cousin Kim is coming to visit again.
New Christine was really funny. (my fav. strike show).
Yeah for this week!
