Happy Birthday Josh!
Josh is 12! Unbelievable! We had such a nice day celebrating him. I was thrilled to get him the Giants t-shirt he wanted (Buster Posey). We had a nice birthday breakfast and dinner as a family and I took Josh and Caroline out to lunch as well. Tomorrow night some of his friends are coming over for dinner and outdoor games and water balloons. He wanted a vanilla cake with strawberry frosting so we did that on his birthday.
He got ordained a deacon today and did a great job passing the sacrament. Only 3 more deacons to go! We are so proud of Josh and what a great kid he is.
Student of the Month Luncheon
A couple of weeks ago Josh and I got to attend a very fun luncheon. It was for all the Students of the Month at TMS and their parents. We met the kids at the VIP Country Club and had a great time eating with them and celebrating their accomplishments. There were 12 6th graders (6 boys and 6 girls) chosen as students of the month and Josh was one of them. Here's a blurry picture of him receiving his plaque with his principal, superintendent and town supervisor. Way to go Josh! So proud of you.
Happy Birthday to me and Carma!
Happy Early Birthday to me! Carma and I celebrated our 40th birthdays together last weekend. Hers was in May and of course mine is coming up this July! We went to the Chart House in Weehawken, NJ on a double date. Such a fun and memorable night. It was so great to be on the water and have an amazing view of NYC.
Carma has been the best friend to me over the past 19 years. We were mission companions (twice) and roommates! I am so glad she and her darling family live in NJ! We love seeing them. Carma, happy birthday! I hope this year brings you so many great things.
Piano recital
Josh and I went to the City on Friday night for his recital. He's been taking with Max for about 3 years now. He played the first movement of the Clementi Sonatina and did very well. He is also learning some hymns which is very excited for all of us. Thomas loves to play the piano too. Matthew and Caroline have their recital this Saturday! We love our piano players!
Caroline's poem
Caroline won first place for her grade in our library's poetry contest! She couldn't go to the event since it conflicted with her band concert. She got a blue ribbon and certificate.
Here is her poem:
Beach
Calm and wide,
Warm, outside.
Green seaweed, amber sand
Bubbly waves kiss the land.
Seagulls speak, begging for food,
Putting people in a sad mood.
Colorful umbrellas dot the sand.
Striped towels, laid on the land.
That's the beach
All warm like a peach.
This is what the judge said: Who hasn't been dreaming of the beach during this long snowy winter and drizzly spring? With just a few words Caroline's poem captures the essential elements of the beach experience and allows the read to feel as though he is on a warm quiet strip of sand. Great imagery!
A neighbor who's daughter won for seventh grade chased us down the street to tell caroline how much she liked her poem.
There were over 530 poems entered! So proud of my little writer!
