Adventures in Western New York

Well, it was a wonderful weekend spent at Chataqua Lake at the wedding of my cousin Kim and her groom Gavin. Everything was beautiful and it was great to spend time with my Mom and sister as well as Kim's family.

It was an adventure getting home yesterday. When I went to check in in Buffalo, I was told my flight was cancelled due to weather at JFK. The airline said there were no seats available on later flights from Buffalo to JFK until Monday which was unacceptable. I had to be home Sunday night. It was Josh's birthday on Sunday and I had many things going on on Monday (today).

The representative did say there were flights with open seats from Rochester to JFK, just an hour down the Thruway. Well, that's great, but I just turned in my rental car (and forgot to get gas beforehand), so I was already over budget. There was a kind woman, though, who was next to me in line and told her agent she was going to go to Rochester in her car. I turned to her and asked her if I could ride with her to Rochester. Didn't even have time to properly hug Mom and Susie as we were kind of racing against the clock. It was 2 p.m. and the new flight left at 4. Thus began my new friendship with Linda.

We went to her car in long term parking, spent the hour on the Thruway chatting about lots of things, got checked in for our flight and waited another 4 hours to take off. Luckily we were waiting in the airport and not on the plane.

Got home about 5 hours later than was scheduled. But it's 24 hours later. We have a happy birthday boy. The Wii is a big success. And we will have our celebration tonight.

Still can't believe my luck or tender mercy or blessing. Thanks Linda, I will not forget your kindness!

Samalicious

Today Matthew called Sammy Samalicious several times in the car. It was so cute that he's come up with his own little nickname for him (Maybe Mark inspired it, I don't know...)

Samalicious is driving me a little crazy though. We've pulled out some space legos which will entertain Matthew and Caroline for a long time, and Sam loves them, but he gets frustrated, because frankly space legos are not made for 2 year olds. So I am hiding them. For a long time. He cries and cries over them and I can't take it any more!

He's afraid of the pool. He eats all his meals on my lap. His feet smell from his sandals. Today I told someone, why can't he just be 4?

But then we'd miss the 2 year old stuff like new words every day. My favorite is okay. And sweet toddler hugs, and digging in the dirt, and wanting to be carried. And trying any kind of food. And getting super excited over things like bubbles and sidewalk chalk. And happily accompanying me anywhere.

Tomorrow we'll pull out some more age appropriate toys and see what happens.

Random summer thoughts

How many bathing suits does one little boy need?

Apparently 4--two that are too big, and two that are too small.

This week, Matthew has been obsessed with going outside and going swimming. He loves to fill up the little pool and turn on Mount Tiki Soaki. All times of day. Sam hates going outside and is scared of everything right now!

In other summerish news, our bedtimes have gone out the window. No one wants to go to bed until 9.

I think I will go get a slip and slide today.

Our last day of school is two weeks from today.

That means 3 weeks from today we leave on vacation!

seeking wii advice

We are thinking of a wii for Josh's 9th birthday coming up at the end of the month.

Where do I get one?
Are you happy you have one?
Can I take it on vacation with me?
Will it hook up to a TV from 1997 (seriously)?
Are they easy to use?
What other games do we get besides wii sports?

If you can give me some advice, I'd appreciate it!

The Chicken Song

For Mother's Day this year, our ward provided the women over age 18 with a CD of hymns. This has been a wonderful gift and I have loved listening to this CD in the car. Matthew has named #14 the Chicken Song. It's actually "Count Your Blessings" but to him it sounds like Chickens. So this morning en route to the train, Mark got to hear for the first time the Chicken song, complete with 5 other people (including Sam the man of few words) bawk, bawk, bawking to the music. It made for a fun time. If you got this CD too, be sure to check out 14. Number 4 is my personal favorite, Sweet Hour of Prayer.
