We are in!
The boxes that are unpacked are in the basement, garage and Mark's office.
The toy closet is done.
The boys' summer clothes are in their drawers and out of totes.
The backyard toys are spread all over the back lawn.
There was a little frustration about kitchen cabinet space.
Can't wait for a trip to Target to get all those little things you need in a new space.
We can't figure out how to turn on the heat.
I think I need to create a workspace for me.

The wisdom of Babar
We checked out Babar and His Children from the library this week. Josh loves Babar. Who doesn't?
Babar and His Children is one of the six original Babar books written by Jean de Brunhoff (and translated into English). Others are written by his son, Laurent.
After a difficult day where Alexander almost gets eaten by a crocodile, Babar and Celeste are relaxing.
"Now everyone is asleep. Babar and Celeste will soon go to bed too. They are gradually calming down after all these exciting events.
"Truly it is not easty to bring up a family," sighs Babar. "But how nice babies are! I wouldn't know how to get along without them any more."

A Mix Tape
One of the hallmarks of friendship in High School was making a friend a mix tape. Of course in the days before CD's, this was difficult. You had to cue up your cassette player to the exact place, oh you know the drill.
iTunes has made this much easier. Mark made me a CD of songs from our courtship and gave it to me the night he proposed. He also made me a CD last summer for my birthday. I loved them both! Thanks Mark!
My darling sister Chrissie sent me a CD yesterday in the mail, called "Songs that remind me of Kath" I put it on when I was cleaning out the refrigerator today. It was so fun to listen to. She managed to find songs from every era our our lives...young childhood (Just an old-fashioned love song by Paul Williams, one of my mom's records), Mamas and the Papas (from drives through Nevada) and a couple of songs from my very first record "Beauty and the Beat" by the Go-gos that I got for my 10th birthday. She put a few favorite songs from high school as well, including "Back on the Chain Gang" by the pretenders, "king for just one day" by Thompson Twins, "no one ever is to blame" by Howard Jones, and "right by your side" by the Eurythmics.
I was laughing and crying listening to it! Thank you so much Chrissie. You made my day! My favorite part was dancing with Matthew during "Can't stop dancing!" (was that from Solid Gold?)
Now go make a mix tape for someone you love!
Computer dependent
Well, I have saved a lot of time this week. Our computer has been not functioning and is currently being repaired. So, I can check email on Mark's laptop in the evenings. (I have to ask permission first.) But I realized how much I depend on the computer and how utterly lost I feel without it!
My first thought when the computer wasn't working was panic about my digital pictures. I have been assured they are fine and not lost. Guess we better come up with a backup system!
And then I felt sad because it's hard to read blogs without a computer and it's not like I am loving Mark's laptop for any lengthy periods of time. And I really enjoy reading my friend's blogs.
But it's been good to have some spare time so I can pack. We are moving on Friday.
And when we get settled, then I'll be back!
PS before the computer woes, I had done my first online grocery shopping order and I ordered all my moving boxes on line which I will probably list on Craig's list afterwards. Plus we got a new knob for the dryer online. Where would I have ever gotten this without the internet? Now I can take my pliers to the new house. I am all for computer making life easier. Actually, I am for anything that makes life easier, but I'll save those thoughts for another day!
What's in a name?
I am named after my Grandma. Her name is Kathryn.
I have always really liked my name. I am quite fond of the less common spelling. Sure, people mistake for Katherine, like if I am on the phone and my name needs to be spelled out, people assume it is Katherine. That's okay.
But the one thing I don't like about my name is when it gets shortened to Kathy.
Maybe when people see it written, it's just easy to drop the r and the n and naturally look at it as Kathy.

Yes, I can see that happening.
Usually, I will correct people, but with some people it's been hard. The correction usually has to be done swiftly and quickly (and nicely) after meeting someone who calls me Kathy. "I have always gone by Kathryn" or "I prefer to be called Kathryn" have been two standard responses.
My dear, wonderful neighbor calls me Kathy and after 4 years I haven't been able to say, I really prefer Kathryn. Then I would feel bad that she would feel bad because for four years she's been calling me by the wrong name! The midwife used to call me Kathy and I corrected her many times but it never caught on!
Some of the older Italian women on our street call me Kathy, but I don't mind that as much since they don't hear so well.
We love that our sons names have a full name: Joshua, Matthew and Samuel, a nickname: Joshy, Matty, Sammy, and a common shortened name, Josh, Matt and Sam. We call Caroline Caro but most people call her Caroline. Josh does not like Joshua as much now, he writes Josh on his papers. Oh, and we have a ton of other nicknames for our kids as well, besides the standard one.

Where did all the Webkinz go?
So there are no Webkinz to be found in my area.
This is much to the dismay of a broken-hearted kindergartener who worked really hard all week at trying new foods to earn the said Webkinz.
And the fact that they are unavailable is making me even more crazy to get her one.
When we initially worked out this agreement (she would eat the dinner the rest of the family was having for the week), in exchange for a webkinz at the end of the week, I thought it was now big deal to go to the local drug store (which has posters on both doors advertising that Webkinz are sold here) to purchase one.
We attempted to purchase one on-line, but Matthew pounded on the computer and somehow turned the screen not only to black and white, but negative black and white, and now that it's fixed, it's Sunday and Webkinz wasn't even brought up today.
So maybe the Webkinz craze will go away.
And maybe she will eat what we are having for dinner tomorrow night.
Product review: Ordering Pizza online
Well, I just ordered my dinner online.
Despite previous posts about making dinner, tonight I just had no ideas. I couldn't figure anything out, plus I am trying to use up stuff so we don't have to move it.
Plus it's Tuesday, which is nice for Two for Tuesday for Dominos.
I logged on, ordered our pizzas (2 large for the price of one) and in 28 minutes, we'll be good to go.
It was very easy, very crisp, and took about 4 minutes.
Yeah for the internet!
