My big fat dairy intolerance
Last week when Josh had an ear infection, we went to our pediatrician. She saw Thomas's rashy face and suggested it may be a milk allergy and advised me to give up dairy (what? And give up happiness? See Brian Regan on you tube for that funny sketch.)
Anyways, she is right about this kind of stuff so I complied kind of and gave up most dairy. Which is hard since I love milk, yogurt, cheese, sour cream and ice cream!
So a week passed and we went for Thomas's regular appointment yesterday. His rash definitely had cleared up. I'd had a bit of dairy here and there through the week, some cream cheese, some cheese in enchiladas. I decided to treat myself to bowl of ice cream last night. Oh I am so paying for it today! Thomas's rash is back. And my stomach feels awful. Just horrible all afternoon. So not worth it.
So I guess the no dairy thing is now in full force around here. Wish me luck. I am mostly writing this down so I remember how awful I felt today for the next time I am tempted to have a bowl of ice cream.
Mother's Day

I was a lucky mom on mother's day weekend! I got to go to both Matthew and Sammy's schools for mother's day celebrations. Then, here we are all on Mother's Day before Church. I was given the gift of time and that was precious. The bishop cancelled meetings and appointments. Hooray! I had a really nice nap.
This is a hard job, no doubt. Particularly hard lately with a sore knee and end of the year craziness and a few hormones floating around (mine, Josh's, etc.) But I do love it. This morning I woke up grateful that what I had to do today was take care of 5 wonderful children. I even got a middle of the day glee break when Sammy fell asleep (and transferred) on the way home from Target and the baby decided to nap too.
No more putting it off now...onto dinner. Then baseball. Then cub scouts. But I love it.
Latest and greatest

Here's some things we've been up to...
Matthew and Sammy picking out legos at the Lego store for Sammy's birthday.
Matthew performing at the Ice Show. the culmination of his 13 weeks of ice skating lessons. He skated to march of the cards from Alice in Wonderland. Juliane helped me make his costume.
Caroline at the Sew Show. She showed her bean bag turtle and drawstring bag she made in sewing lessons.
Thomas...love of my life right now!
Josh, our awesome trumpet player, on the evening of his final elementary school band concert.
Grandmas part 2

Matty and Sammy in matching outfits...coronado here we come (in 8 weeks or so)
Thomas likes the Bumbo!

Various pictures over the past week or so: Sammy's cupcakes for school, Thomas hanging out, Sammy and Caroline playing Candyland, Sammy's birthday cake with his new lego figures. Caroline and Josh with their new Sunday-wear.
Found treasures/Decisions
So, last week I was surprised when I happened upon found chocolate! This is almost as good as found money. Chocolate that I had stashed somewhere, forgot about and then found! I think after you've had knee surgery you are entitled to your found chocolate (husband's Easter candy) right? I also found a cadbury bar I had bought with the intention of giving to a woman in our ward who is in a rest home, but I can always go back to the store, right?
Today, I had found pepsi one! Putting away some items from Costco, I found the pepsi one leftover from Grandma and Grandpa's visit! Heaven! (explains why at 10:30 p.m. I found energy to blog and to clean one bathroom!)
In separate news, the baby has outgrown the bassinette. He's so big now! This is forcing a whole chain reaction. Two options in the play and pack department:
Can I just deal with our 90s style hand me down play and pack (orange, green and blue--bright.)?
Or find the money in the budget for a new one, which I can get I think about $70. (just simple--no bells and whistles)
Either one we would use by our bed for 2 months until we go on vacation. Afterwards, we'd just have it as a play yard for downstairs. Which could come in handy if I ever want to put him down in a contained spot when he's mobile. Not a total waste if I go new.
The other option is to put up the crib in our room (crowded). Or put up the crib in his intended room (which is full of 2 other brothers).
To move the 2 other brothers into their new room (which is currently an upstairs playroom and office), we need to do a few things:
1) clean out playroom closet
2) find and purchase shades for the skylights (preferably black out ones)
3) move computer and desk downstairs to family room
4) rearrange family room to accomodate computer and desk
5) move white cabinet into wasted space in powder bathroom (which we will do soon anyways to house all sports equipment so we are not always yelling as we leave out the house for shinguards, soccer balls, baseball cleats, mitts, hats, etc. etc.)
6) make boys' room into a nursery (fun job!)
7) fix our room up without all the baby stuff in it and move small couch in boys intended room into our room.
Then when you are cleaning out stuff, you have other options
1) try and give away stuff
2) try and sell stuff
3) just get rid of stuff in the trash
I have no energy for #2 (ebay, craig's list or tag sales hold no interest for me).
So I wish I felt better in the knee department to tackle all of this right now. But it's going to be a bit longer before that happens. So, we may just do the play and pack option for 8 weeks and make all the changes when we get home in August. We'll want projects then. Maybe we will just try and declutter for the next bit so it will make it easier to move everyone in August. Oh and Mark wants to paint.
